When all immediate danger was over Honeypot and I tried to solve the problem with the possibility of Kaven being a traitor.

We talked to him alone while Doro kept guard and Gloriana and Velicia searched through the keep.

He was born in Turtleback Ferry and had gotten in a fight over a woman with a local goat herder with connections.

He had at first been magically charmed by Lucretia and she after charming him blackmailed him

He had told her when the patrol would leave the fort and what way it would take.

He didn't know anymore about her plans.

Velicia wanted to punish him hard. Jakardros wanted to hang him.

Gloriana and Velicia found sonnets written by Lamatar (the ranger boss) to Myriana.

Vale told us that Lamatar sometimes left to walk the wilds

They also found 3 maps and swamp boots

Then Honeypot and Velicia took care of the wounded rangers.

I helped some but I know nothing about it

The house burned down and the flames died down in the rain

The next day the others planned to help the wounded rangers. I don't know anything about healing people so I decided that we needed to tell what had happened to Fort Rannick. I readied Creampuff for the travel back to Turtleback Ferry. Luckily I had brought enough food to last on the way back too. I told Kaven to get ready. If he stayed there he would probably be killed by the other rangers as soon they could stand up. I understand that Jakardros hate him as he thought it was his fault and now he can blame Kaven instead, but I don't think he deserves to die. It was still raining as we set out. That was a change from how it had been so far. It hadn't been raining until lunch and then it used to start and keep raining the whole evening. We reached Turtleback without anything happening.

We got rooms at the inn again and then we went to see Maelin Shreed. I told him that Fort Rannick had fallen into the hands of ogres, but that we had taken it back. I also told him of what Lucretia said and of what Kaven had admitted to. He said "So Kaven, You're in trouble again." He paused for a while but then he told me that he didn't want to pass judgment. He would send him to Magnimar for judgment. I thought of Justice Ironbriar and of the corrupt mayor. I didn't think he would get any better justice there than I got once, a long time ago. I said that I would take responsibility for him. I don't know how that would ever work, a street thief taking responsibility for a traitor, but Maelin asked if it was true that I was of noble birth from Magnimar. I admitted that I am. Then he agreed to it. At first I felt like jumping around and hug Kaven, but I realized that that would probably make him change his mind, so I just nodded with a serious look on my face. Then the mayor said that to get the resources to get the fort repaired he would suggest to the mayor of Magnimar that I was made baroness of the area, in the report he would write. Thinking of the dead rangers that hung in the council room and the awful mess the ogres had made there I was hesitant. It wasn't the place of my dreams, but my dreams just a few months ago used to be for any roof over my head. I didn't know what to say and before I could respond he said, "Good. Then that's decided."

Kaven cooking.

As I had heard that Kaven had been the cook of the rangers I asked Kaven to cook for me, as try out if he could become my cook. We hired the kitchen of the inn and he got enough money to buy any foodstuff he could find in Turtleback Ferry. After quite some time he was finished and brought me a wonderful dinner. He definitely did pass that test. I just wonder if he would pass any loyalty test. It's strange but I think this is one of the hardest things I've done yet. Killing monsters and getting wounded and almost dieing is some how easy as you don't have to think. It's much harder to think. Should I give Kaven a second chance? Would he let me down? Would it be so terrible if he did? Nathaniel hired Orik who had willingly been hired by an evil demon worshiper. Kaven had been tricked. Even if Orik wasn't that happy to work with Nualia, Lyrie hadn't been that regretful and we let her go too. I'm sorry to say that my gut feeling may be influenced by the great dessert Kaven just made, but I will try to straighten him up. But to make this work I can't sleep with him anymore.

Late evening the next day the others returned to Turtleback Ferry with all the rangers that was left. They were still weak and were placed in the cottage hospital where Maelin lives. Velicia wasn't happy with what had been said about Kaven, but she still agreed to start on creating some magical items.

The following day the mayor called a meeting in his house next to the church. We were invited too. He started talking about the loss of the fort when I heard a strange rumbling sound. I got up and looked out a window. I asked "Can anyone hear that?" Velicia answered "Yes! That's a lot of water rushing down." and teleported out of the room. I ran up to the door and opened it to get a better look. Then I saw it. It was an enormous wave coming down the river. I screamed for people to take cover. Myself, I ran out and grabbed a kid and ran back inside the church just before the wave hit. The church was built out of stone and wasn't affected at all. Looking out we saw that the wave had lost force as the river had widened before the Claybottom lake.

We all ran out and started helping people. There was water all over the place. In the lower part of the town it was up to my armpits and it was very hard to not be swept away by the current. Velicia took out her latest new magical thing that was a small statuette of a fly and turned it into a giant fly she could ride. I returned up to higher ground when Velicia cried out. "Over there! By the store! There's a turtle shell filled with children and the schoolteacher." We all headed down there and saw that they were using the original turtleback ferry that had given the town it's name. There was also a giant turtle that wasn't as pleased with how the old shell was used. It was heading for the small ferry that was stuck by the current against the store. I ran down to the water and threw my dagger at the giant turtle and even though I hit it, which wasn't that easy as it was swimming and hardly had anything above water, it barely noticed and still headed for the children. Velicia flew out to it on her fly and attacked it with better success. It changed course and attacked Velicia who was hovering low over the water to attack it. Honeypot and Gloriana joined me at the edge of the water and Gloriana attacked it with her lighting magic. I backed up some and jumped over the water over to the store. I clung to the wall and started climbing along the windows up to the old ferry. There I picked the window and opened it so children and the teacher could climb in to safety. Honeypot followed and convinced some children into daring to jump to safety within the stone building. Velicia split in two with her magic and the two of her and Gloriana fought the turtle and a snake that joined in trying to get a bite. I tried to get close to the snake but the current dragged me away along the side of the house. I grabbed hold and pulled myself back and climbed into the ferry to protect children. Honeypot succeeded in getting the last of children inside as I ran and jumped off the ferry, out to snake and stabbed it as I splashed down. It was hurt hard and dark blood colored the water. Gloriana cast lighting at it and it swam away, but another replaced it.

Honeypot turtleback riding.

Honeypot jumped off the ferry too but out to turtle who had grabbed one of the two Velicias. As the turtle dragged her away the magic was broken and she disappeared. Honeypot sat down on the turtle and they stopped fighting. Velicia attacked the new snake and I managed to swim out to it and trick it with an attack to slip out into the current and it was dragged away. Then it gave up and swam away. Honeypot rode the turtle among the floating debris as the current slowly died down.

We were helping the villagers to get to the church, as it was on higher ground and almost out of the water, when Velicia and Honeypot noticed that something drifting down river among trees wasn't a tree.

The mother of oblivion called Black Magga.

It was a huge monster with strange tentacles. It headed straight for us and quickly it attacked us and caught Honeypot and Velicia in it's long strange tentacles. Only by pure luck I avoided being hit and grabbed by the awful monster and retaliated by stabbing it. It was near impossible to hit. I tried to get away from the church but once again the water slowed me down. It's hard being so small. Velicia teleported out of it's grab and Honeypot slid out of it's grip, but they were still close to the monster. I threw my dagger at it actually wounding it! As it seamed to be a sea monster I continued on trying to draw it away from church up to dry ground. It followed us and Velicia got dominated by it and took a lot of damage. We all tried to attack it but missed it all the time. It still chased us instead of attacking the people in the church. The huge black monster caught Velicia in it's tentacle and queezed her unconscious. Honeypot who was also caught managed to slip away again and stabilize Velicia and hold her head abouve the water as it turned red around her. We were in a terrible situation would probably all die, when suddenly the monster dropped us and moved on through the village and out to sea. We survived.

Velicia told us that it was a mother of oblivion and that this creature was called the Black Magga and was older than the giants who built all ancient buildings from thousands of years ago.
