Velicia told us that she could only be two for a short while so we continued upstairs immediately. There were guards up there that had been alerted. I killed with a thrown dagger and ran past the other to check the end of the corridor. I saw two more ogres down a side corridor. One Velicia followed me up killing the other guard on the way. The others were following up the stairs when several doors were opened and ogres came at us from all directions. The following fight was a little confused as an old ogre shouted something and the other ogres held back, but after a few spells and after I threw my dagger in its left eye every ogre attacked furiously. They used huge sickle-like hooks swung with terrible force. Many of the lesser ogres were felled early but the old one and what appeared to be it's son fought long and hard. I returned to the stairs and threw my dagger from hiding now and then. A spell wielding female cast spells that hurt me really bad. I got angry and thought that I should attack it instead, but I threw my dagger at the old ogre hitting it's other eye, killing it. The son died soon after. The female tried to escape outside. I and Dorothea followed her out and saw to our surprise the big ogre flying. Dorothea felled her using one of her spells.

I sneaked up to the wall of the keep and looked down. There I saw that the fire in the house we lit was still raging and that the unstable guard tower in the courtyard had crumbled. We returned inside and took a short rest to get back into fighting shape.

Before the attack we had seen Lucretia, but we had not met her yet, so we looked through all rooms on that floor looking for her. We didn't find her but in the council room we found the bodies of several rangers hung on the walls being drained of blood. It was an awful scene. Sadly enough the stairs up the tower were through a storage room we only could reach through the council room. Even in the tower was a ranger hanging from a bell as bell clapper. When we were going up there Shalelu told us that Jakardros, Vale and Kaven were fighting among themselves. It had something to do with Lucretia calling out to them from the tower "Kaven! How good of you, my servant, to return to your master." I was surprised, but I couldn't deal with that at that time. I continued up through a trapdoor out on top of the tower behind Lucretia and threw my dagger at her. I was still distracted by thoughts of Kaven and missed. When she turned around and sent the same kind of snakes as Xanesha had used in the old clock tower in Magnimar, I was restrained by the snakes. Honeypot talked to the other rangers and got them to put their differences aside for the time being. Lucretia turned out to be hard to hit and she teleported off the roof and hung in mid air. We succeeded in pulling her down and killing her after a short fight. When she died she turned into a half-snake, half-woman lamia creature.

I returned down the tower and went out on top of the keep. At the wall I looked down at the courtyard and could see about twenty ogres running around down there. With the rain pouring down I started using my sling to hit them with stones, but then Velicia raised the big ogre hook she took from the dead ogre leader over her head and screamed at them. They all stared with fear in their eyes at the weapon and fled. The rain had eased up and now there was almost just a drizzle as we watched them flee.

We had retaken Fort Rannick.
