A rocket engine that can be controlled, and with a burn time of more than a few seconds, is a great improvement to gliders.
A rocket glider is capable of short bursts of tripple speed, and while burning rockets it can ascend under its own power. Each such burst lasts a two minutes, and the rocket can burn a number of times equal to its reliability before it needs refueling and maintainance.
