Diana Steed is the grand-daughter of a pair of famous British secret agents of the 60:s, John Steed and Emma Peel. In the official story, Mrs. Peel had to leave the service due to her missing pilot husband, Peter Peel, returning. That was a complete ruse. Ms. Steed's father was one of the results of the real events.

Having a family deeply entrenched within the intelligence community gives Ms. Steed a very good access to classified equipment through unofficial channels.
