Rules

This is basically Deluxe with some rules and gear from Pirates of the Spanish Main and The Savage World of Solomon Kane. I want a fairly gritty game, so the pulpier stuff is left out.

Plunder

Plunder is obviously important for soldiers in the age of pike and shot. The rules in Pirates of the Spanish Main can easily be used. A few of the unique maritime artifacts could be changed, or just rerolled. The fact that booty is listed for opponents in the bestiary will be very useful!

Carousing

The rules for cabin fever in Pirates of the Spanish Main (p. 130) can easily be used for soldiers in camp. The rules for carousing and getting drunk are more or less required when sacking a city!

Edges

I've tried to limit the number of new edges. There are a few edges in Pirates of the Spanish Main and The Savage World of Solomon Kane that might be useful for a military campaign. For example, Bilge Rat could be renamed Tunnel Rat. This would be a useful edge when fighting in tunnels during a siege (see Alatriste).

  • Bilge Rat ("Tunnel Rat")
    • Improved Bilge Rat ("Improved Tunnel Rat")
  • Bind
  • Close Fighting
    • Improved Close Fighting
  • Fleche
  • Lunge

Core edges renamed for flavor:

  • Counterattack ("Riposte")
    • Improved Counterattack ("Improved Riposte")
  • Ace ("Horseman"

Equipment

  • To keep thing simple, I do not use the rules for overloading blackpowder weapons.

Player's Guide

The full rules for characters (desciption of new Hindrances and Edges) and equipment is available as a PDF for local use only.
