Disrupting The Summons
The Vast |
Rista, Jaden, Gates and Rob rummage through the library of the defeated demonologist and find hints that some sort of wickedness is to be triggered shortly on a nearby hillock.
Leaving Said and Legolars behind to guard their temporary base at the old wind mill they set out at a forced pace to reach the hillock in time. Rista stays behind a bit further in order to ascertain certain particulars regarding the unholy works of the demonologist.
After a forced march through the rainy woods Rob, Gates and Jaden reach the place in question just as dusk sets in. Cautiously they scout the surrounding area but as far as they can tell there are no enemies around.
Meanwhile Rista manages to deduce that it is a summon of a mightier type of demon than the manes and dretches they've encountered so far that her compatriots are facing. She hurries through the deepening darkness and reaches the other three just as they are planning how to best approach the summit of the hill.
In the gloom they now notice the glow of several lights on to of the hillock but careful spying seems to indicate there is no one up there and so the valiant adventurers move in.
In a circle there are several large chunks of quarts which all glow with an eerie light and in the middle the ground itself seems to churn and boil like so much hot wax. Jaden decides that this cannot be tolerated and proceeds to kick the glowing quartz chunks down the slope of the hill. As the stones tumble own they stop glowing. In the process they also find a strange mechanical-magical contraption that seems to act as a catalyst for the autonomous summoning process. Without hesitation Rista smashes the little machine to the dismay of Jaden who wished to study it.
Meanwhile Gates has grown restless and uses a piece of wood to prod into the still pliable but hardening ground in the former stone circle. The piece of wood is grabbed by something from below and jerked down. Only Gates' rapid reflexes keeps the holy man from falling into the mess.
By now the others are alerted to the impending danger and as Rob leans over the place where the chunk of wood disappeared a polearm is shoved up through the mess, injuring the big elf rather badly.
Even as the others hurry to prepare for pitched battle a disgusting rutterkin demon begins to emerge from the goo and lashes out with it's voulge and attempts to overwhelm them with it's innate magical abilities.
Fortunately they heroes withstand the initial barrage and counter attack. Rista heals Rob and along with Gates uses their divine magics to distress the demon in order to weaken it.
Jaden decides this is not the time for subtlety and presents the demon with a mighty blow from his claymore and is soon joined by the axe-wielding Rob.
Soon enough the revolting creature from beyond is struck down and absorbed back into the Abyss from whence it originated.
Even as they cheer their victory, Rista cautions them that if they had not gotten here in time they would have been facing something even mightier. Whomever is behind this is not a mere amateur summoner for sure.
Truding back through the rainy night the tired group reach the wind mill only to be greeted by the sounds of battle!
The gnolls have found and attacked the windmill and Said and Legolars are hard pressed to hold their ground...
Thus ends this session.
