Negotiations take place and bold Zárisse drives a hard bargain. In return for the dragon to take up residence just outside the Thayan border and the right to devastate the stolen province with her fires as, she will agree to help breaching the barrier of mist.

Foolishly, Fandamm tries to pilfer a dead bat from the dragon's den but is discovered and in order to save the situation, Zárisse orders him pummeled senseless as punishment before the dragoness takes enough offense to annihilate them all.

With matters of diplomacy finally settled the band rush home, back across the border into Thay. Civilization again, at last!

Zárisse reports to Anekh who is somewhat surprised but accepts the plan as a working one.

Darya rushes off to send a host of letters and contracts to the ministries and authorities on Eltabbar to ensure that once this matter is settled, her benefactor, Zárisse will be a land owner.
