Class Features

The following are class features of the Golden Legionnaire.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A Golden Legionnaire is proficient with all simple weapons and all martial weapons, and is proficient with all forms of armor and shields, including tower shields.

Defy Danger (Ex)

A 1st level Golden Legionnaire gains a +2 bonus on saving throws against one of the following dangers:

  • Charms and compulsions
  • Curses
  • Diseases & poisons
  • Fear
  • Traps
  • Innate abilities (abilities that allow a saving throw and are not spells (it does help against inherent spell-like abilities) or gained from class levels, feats, or spells) of one creature type. This ability can be taken several times, for different creature types.

At 4th level, the bonus increases to +4. Also at level 4, and every 4 levels thereafter, the Golden Legionnaire gains protection from an additional danger.

Legion Feats

A Golden Legionnaire gains the these bonus feats at the following levels, even if he doesn't meet the prerequisites:

1st— Improved Brace
4th—Stand Still
8th—Bodyguard
12th—In Harm's Way
16th—Swift Aid

If he already possesses a listed feat, he can instead take any other combat feat he meets the prerequisites for.

Intercept (Ex)

At 2nd level, a Golden Legionnaire gains a bonus equal to 1/2 his class level to his CMD when an opponent attempts an Acrobatics check to move through a square he threatens, and gains the same bonus on combat maneuver checks when using the Stand Still feat.

Armor Training (Ex)

Starting at 3rd level, a golden legionnaire learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed.

In addition, a golden legionnaire can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a golden legionnaire can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.

Allied Retribution (Ex)

At 5th level, if a Golden Legionnaire sees a creature attack a friendly creature within 60 feet, including an attack on the gold legionnaire himself, he can select the attacker as a designated adversary as a free action. When a Golden Legionnaire does this, he gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and weapon damage rolls against the designated adversary for a number of minutes equal to his class level. A Golden Legionnaire can have a number of designated adversaries up to 1/3 his Diplomacy skill bonus. If he already has his maximum number of designated adversaries selected, he can end the effects of his allied retribution against one of his previously designated adversaries when he selects a new one. The Golden Legionnaire can reselect a creature that is already a designated adversary if it attacks an ally or a friendly creature again, allowing his to restart the effect's duration.

At 9th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the bonus from allied retribution increases by +1.

Gung Ho (Ex)

At 5th level, a golden legionnaire improves his ability to respond to enemy action and protect his allies. He may make a number of additional attacks of opportunity per round equal to his Charisma bonus.

Authoritative Command (Ex)

At 6th level, as a move action, a Golden Legionnaire can issue orders to a number of allies up to 1/3 his Intimidate skill bonus who are within 30 feet and can see, hear, and understand him. Affected allies are not under any obligation to obey these commands, but do not gain the bonuses if they choose to ignore the commands. As soon as at least one selected ally obeys the Golden Legionnaire's orders during the round, the Golden Legionnaire and each compliant ally all gain a +1 competence bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, and to Armor Class for 1 round. The bonus lasts until the beginning of each ally's next turn. This is is a mind-affecting compulsion effect. At level 10, 14, and 18 the bonus increases by one, to a maximum of +4 at level 18.

Improved Aid (Ex)

At 7th level, when a gold legionnaire successfully uses the aid another action in combat, the bonus on the ally’s attack roll or to its Armor Class increases by +1 (from the aid another action's normal +2 bonus to +3). At 11th, 15th, and 19th level, the bonus increases by an additional +1, to a maximum aid other bonus of +6.

Hold the Line (Ex)

At 10th level, if a creature takes a 5-foot step out of the area threatened by a Golden Legionnaire, or if the creature withdraws out of that area, it provokes an attack of opportunity from him.

Retaliate (Ex)

At 12th level, when a creature threatened by the gold legionnaire attacks an ally, he may make an attack of opportunity against that creature. As usual for attacks of opportunity, this happens before the enemy's attack.

Preemptive Strike (Ex)

At 17th level, a gold legionnaire can make an attack of opportunity against a foe that moves into any square he threatens, regardless of whether or not this movement would normally provoke an attack of opportunity. He can use this ability against each opponent once per round.

Guardian of Liberty (Ex)

At 18th level, once per day as an immediate action a Golden Legionnaire can reroll a single attack roll or saving throw, or force an enemy to reroll an attack roll made against the Legionnaire or an adjacent ally after the result of the attack roll is revealed. At 20th level, the golden legionnaire can use this ability once per minute.

Guard Step (Ex)

At 19th level the golden legionaries can take a 5 ft. step as an immediate action. This has no effect on the legionnaire's movement or actions later in the round.

Favored Class Bonuses

Instead of receiving an additional skill rank or hit point whenever he gains a level in a class of gold legionnaire, the following races have the option of choosing an alternate bonus depending on their race.

Dwarf: Add +1 bonus to your CMD when resisting trips and reposition actions.

Elf: Add +1/4 an instance of defy danger.

Gnome: Add a +1 bonus to Intimidate checks.

Half-Elf: Add +1 to the effective Intimidate skill ranks for determining the number allies affected by your authoritative command.

Half-Orc: Add +1/2 points of damage to attacks of opportunity.

Halfling: Add a +1 bonus to make attacks of opportunity against creatures 2 or more sizes larger than you.

Human: Add +1 bonus to your CMD to resist bull rush and overrun actions.
