Drow

Drow

The Drow are the pinnacle of creation, the children of Lolth and the rightful masters of the universe (or at least the Underworld.). Few creatures can challenge their superiority and survive, as individuals or species.

Drow are the norm by which beauty and physical proportions are measured, but vary considerably from individual to individual. Length varies from four to six feet. The skin of a drow is always black with a touch of indigo, except in those rare cases where albinism is present. Eyes are almond-shaped with grey, purple, red or amber iris. Ears take a number of shapes as well, from small and hardly pointed to farily large or very elongated and/or sharply pointed.

The hair of any given drow is the most variable aspect of a drow's appearance, their pride and joy, and embellished without end. Many drow color their hair brightly, ranging from radiantly bluish, grey and various hues such as light red, yellow or purple but the natural colour for a drow's hair is pure white or silvery. Head hair is fine and usually ample. A few males can grow beards or moustaches, which is considered effeminate and is quite appreciated. Genital hair is common but not all drow have it. Other body hair is rare and considered distasteful. To be naturally bald is rarely seen, but some shave their heads and/or bodies just to be extreme.

All children live only at the mercy of their mother, and tolerance for deformity is low. Thus, extremely few adult drow have aberrant physical traits. Lower-class drow are less selective than nobles, so it is not unknown, albeit very very rare still, for drow trash to have physical deformities. Some traits, such as albinism, blindness, and irises of mismatched colors, are seen as signs of magical ability. Such children may be spared, even pampered.

Drow are said to be kin to the ElfSlaves of the surface - who are said to be debased, fallen drow. The physical similiarity is striking, but the mentality is all different. A Drow with the weak personality of an ElfSlave would be doomed to be a helpless pawn, no more than a slave very shortly or (more likely) dead.
