Heroic Action Role-Play

This is a Method for using Powers in Action. Methods are a part of Traditions and define how Powers are used in each campaign.

Power Misfire

Your powers can cause you setbacks or activate outside of your control. This is similar to Echoes, but relates to specific powers. Some applications are also similar to Mundane Form.

Limitation

This limitation does not cause your powers to fail, instead making them activate by accident. You can pick up to three misfire triggers - and the power triggered - when you pick this method, the advantage of having more is that you can focus more often the more misfires you suffer.

Decide on a trigger when your powers misfire; this can be anything. Typical examples can be when you roll snake eyes, when hit by a certain kind of attack, or when you see the full moon for the first time tonight. When this condition occurs, one of your powers misfires. Generally, this is the same or a similar power misfiring in the same way each time. Misfires are Setbacks and generally detrimental to you, tough they can sometimes have positive side effects. If the power allows some targeting roll or other way to avoid nasty side effects, you fail this roll. The chosen power is generally a Limit Break. Examples include a Fireball exploding in your face, an involuntary change into an Alternate form, or an accidental Demon Summoning.

Power misfires generally occur between rounds, much like Limit Breaks.

Focus Condition

Trigger Action (Focus)

In the round after you suffer a Power Misfire, you can focus.
