In America, france has established cordial relations with Quebec and has basically adopted French Louisiana, a client state in all but name. With a strong presence in French Indochina, the French are quite militaristic and strongly opposed to Japanese expansion. French weapons have been supplied to the Chinese nationalists, and chinese are trained in the French Foreign Legion, then summarily discharged to return to China to fight the Japanese. At the same time, the French are having troubles of their own with native insurrection in Indochina. The USA lost control of the Philippines during the collapse, and France stepped into the vacuum created. Though the Philippines are officially an independent nation, it has strong french support. A common religion brings the two nations together, but philippine resentment of all colonialism and french feeling of superiority creates tensions. |
