Drop Tanks |

On certain missions, the basic range of a plane is not sufficient, and Drop Tanks are deployed. These are wing-mounted tanks that degrade performance and are dangerous in combat, but in certain circumstances there is no escaping them. The Extra Range entry on the table below indicates the range increase afforded the respective type of tank. Once this extra range has been used, the tanks can be dropped. A drop tank hit in combat functions just like an ordinary fuel tank, but a pilot almost always jettisons his drop tanks before entering combat.
By the way, an extra pound of interior tank space gives an additional range of approximately two miles.
