The normal experience point costs associated with magic can be substituted with power components. These are rare and special substances, refined by skilled craftsmen and selected by alchemists for a particular use. Power components are not generic; those purchased for one purpose will not work for any other magical process.
Power componets cost 5 gp per experience point they are to substitute for. To supply a power component for a certain process, the entire amount needed must be within the gold-piece limit of the settlement; you cannot purchase power components for a large magical process in smaller lots.
The net effect on magic item creation is that you can either pay 50% of the items cost in gold and 1 xp/ 25 gp base price, or you can pay 70% of the items base price in gold.
