Developed from the Bardic Knack ability from PHII 35

The Jack of all Trades variant is a bard less versed in old lore and more rooted in practical reality. Lacking bardic lore, but with the amazing ability to pick up a little bit of everything, the Jack of all Trades lets you be competent at everything, but a master of nothing. All bards are this way, but the jack-of-all-trades is exceptionally so.

Class Skills

The bard’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (Local) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Perform (Cha), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Speak Language (None), Spellcraft (Int), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), and Use Magic Device (Cha).

Class Features

The jack of all trades has all the standard bard class features, except as noted below.

Bardic Knowledge

The jack of all trades does not have this class feature, tough he gets exceptional access to knowledge skills through his bardic knack ability.

Bardic Knack

The jack of all trades can overcome his own lack of skill. Whenever his skill rank is lower than half his class level, he can base his skill bonus on half his class level instead. This works with any skill that can either be used unskilled or in which the jack of all trades have at least one skill rank in, but does not give any other benefit of skill ranks, such as synergies or prerequisites.

This means the jack of all trades usually place one skill rank in as many of the skills that cannot be used unskilled as possible, and all the rest in a few skills he wants to specialize in.
