This is a version of iron or steel that does not conduct heat well. This is useful in constructing engines, but even more so in building hulls; a ship with a heatproof hull may cause fires to go out spontaneously. Make a reliability roll each combat turn there is a fire on board; on a success one fire goes out.
Heatproof Iron cannot be welded. The heatproofing can be combined with superhard steel. A heatproof hull increases the cost of a vessel by 10%.
