The dreamlands is a place both real and not. It is a world inhabited by dreamers, but also by people and monsters that were born and raised there, never having seen the "real" world.
Dreamscapes
A dreamscape is an individual place, a dream of one. Dreamscapes are normally closed to all outsiders, but some strong dreamers can pierce the void between dreams. The strongest can even take control of the dream, to learn something about the dreamer, or to terrify or trap her.
The Dreamlands
The dreamlands are a shared dreamscape that has remained constant for all of human history. Before that, it probably existed in a considerably different form. The central dreamlands have a defined geography, and time that mostly flows forward in a somewhat predictable pace. At the outskirts, things are fluid, and nothing can be taken for granted.
The dreamlands is connected to all places where there are dreamers, including the underworld and the shadow world.
