These rules have had disruptive effects on gameplay and look likely to be modified further or removed.

Crossbows can be made into mighty weapons. You can shoot (but not load) a crossbow with a required strength up to 8 higher than your strengths score. Anyone, even someone with a Strength under 10, can reload a standard (non-mighty) crossbow.

The following accessories exist for crossbows:

Pistol Grip

A replacement for the standard stock only usable with the light crossbow. Unlike the other accessories, this is a permanent modification of the weapon and cannot be detached. The pistol grip eliminates the penalty for firing a light crossbow one-handed, but also reduces the range of the weapon to half. The crossbow still takes two hands to reload. You cannot fire a mighty crossbow that needs more strength than you have using a Pistol Grip. Cost 2 gp. Weight: -

Removable Stock

A lose stock that can be attached to either a hand crossbow or a light crossbow fitted with a pistol grip. It doubles the weapon's base range, but it now requires two hands to use. Firing a crossbow fitted with a removable stock one-handed incurs a -4 penalty. Attaching or detaching the stock is a full-round action. Cost: 4 gp. Weight: 1 lb.

Crow's Foot

A lever used to reload a crossbow, a Crow's Foot increases your Strength by 4 only for the purpose of reloading crossbows. Using the Crow's Foot takes two free hands and one foot; this means you lose your Dexterity bonus to armor class in the round you reload and it cannot be used when you don't have your feet on the ground, such as when flying or riding. Reloading takes no extra time, but you cannot use the Rapid Reload feat with a Crow's Foot. Cost: 5 gp. Weight: 4 lb.

Windlass

A winch which increases your Strength by 8 only for reloading a crossbow. Also increases the time it takes to reload a crossbow by an additional full-round action. You cannot use the Rapid Reload feat with a windlass. Cost 30 gp. Weight 6 lbs.
