This is a tight torso armor reinforced with struts of metal, wood, or bone. It does not offer much in the way of protection and is quite encumbering. The upside is that it can be outfitted with heavy skirts and made part of a suit of courtier's or noble's outfit. Because it does not hinder the arms at all, it has no spell failure chance and does not give an armor penalty on attacks even when used by someone who lacks Armor Proficiency (light armor).

If worn with the heavy skirts dictated by some female fashions, the corset has an armor penalty of -4, but provides an excellent hiding place for any item of up to two size classes smaller than the wearer, such as one-handed or smaller weapons. Add +4 to the Sleight of Hand roll to hide an item under such skirts.
