Laura White was on an abortive mission to Titan. As disaster struck, she was put in a cold-sleep capsule and jetisoned. After drifting towards Earth for several years, she was finally saved. The trip had taken its toll however - she was now out of synch with her own time, but had retained some of the cold of the freeze. As a side effect, normal temperatures are now uncomfortably hot to her.
