Launchers are used to fire grenades, rockets or missiles that carry a warhead. Because of this, the effect varies greatly depending upon the load carried.
The simplest launcher is the hand grenade - not really a device at all.
Launchers are generally considered military weapons and not approved for civilians. To simulate this, having a launcher always costs an item schtick. In the case of rockets or missiles, each individual rocket or missile counts as a separate item schtik - in this case the launcher is free.
The grenade launcher can be added to a rifle or carbine as an underslung weapon.
Improvised grenades are those made on primitive worlds or in kitchens - typically used by insurections and criminals.
Many special effects refeer to the corresponding Blast effect of Sorcery.
