Still the most common type of weapon in the Dragon Empire. Militias, vigilantes and other armed civilians tend to use these weapons - along with the levies of the poorer legions. No self-respecting professional soldier or legionare would be caught dead with one.
Firearms using standard cartridges have the ammo capacities noted. They are standard civilian weapons, rugged and reliable. Such weapons and ammo are made in workshops even on backwater planets. Caseless weapons put some more strain on the supply needs of the gunman - they must be factory-made and are more sensitive during storage and handling. On the upside, they have twice the ammo capacity of standard firearms. State-of-the-art firearms use a binary propellant and a bullet stored separately. These are only brought together in the chamber of the weapon - which makes imperial firearms extremely safe and ammunition-efficient. They have three times the capacity of standard weapons, but have even stricter demands on supply, storage and manufacture - they are beyond the means of most civilians.
Because they are so ubiqious, they see frequent use in the intelligence community, among criminals, and by undercover cops. Nobody will raise an eyebrow because you wear a firearm, except on the most lawful and well-controlled worlds.
