Something I literally dreamt up and tried to write down as I was waking up.

This is a setting similar to Tolkien's Middle Earth, perhaps set in the 2nd or middle 3rd age of that setting.

The unique thing that gives this its name is that events of good an evil create points of light and points of darkness in the world. These places have a rating (indicating strength) and an effect. Each side (light and dark) have a generic effect that points of that type always has, and one specific effect special (but not necessarily unique) to that point.

Points of light and dark are created from deeds.

Points of Light

Points of light are created from deeds of light and deeds of virtue, such as.

  • Showing pity
  • Risking or sacrificing yourself
  • Resisting despair
  • Inspiring others

A point of light resists fear and dark magic, restores resolve and overcomes damage.

Permanent points of light are places light Rivendell, Tom Bobadil's home, Lothlorien, the glittering caves of Helm's Deep, Buckland, and particularly old and famous inns.

Points of Darkness

Points of darkness are created by deeds of betrayal and evil

  • Greed
  • Betrayal
  • Destruction for no purpose

A point of darkness weakens resolve, creates fear, and weakens resistance to dark magic.

Permanent points of darkness includes all the fortresses of darkness and the places of great evil in the past, such as the barrow downs.
