The hussar is a mounted fencer, specializing in fast advances and retreats.

Class Information

This is a fencer archetype.

Hit Die: d10.

Class Skills

Add Handle Animal (Cha) to the hussar's list of class skills. Remove Climb (Str) from the hussar's list of class skills. This gives the hussar the following list of class skills: Acrobatics (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (local) (Int), Knowledge (nobility) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Swim (Str).

Class Features

Mounted Parries
When a fencer parries, she becomes staggered, but a mount she is riding does not. The mount can still take a move and standard action, or a full move action. If the mount takes a full move, the fencer cannot make a melee attack, but if it moves and takes a standard action, the fencer can spend a standard action to attack even if staggered. This note is particularly applicable to the hussar.

This archetype has all normal class features, except as noted.

Mount (Ex)

A hussar gains the service of a loyal and trusty steed to carry her into battle. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the hussar's level as her effective druid level. The creature must be one that she is capable of riding and is suitable as a mount. A Medium hussar can select a horse. A Small hussar can select a pony or wolf, but can also select a dog if she is at least 4th level. The GM might approve other animals as suitable mounts.

The mount is always considered combat trained. A hussar's mount does not gain the share spells special ability. At 5th level, and every 5 levels thereafter, the speed of the hussar's mount increases by 10 ft. This applies to all kinds of movement the mount is capable of.

Should a hussar's mount die, the hussar may find another mount to serve her after 1 week of mourning. This new mount does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the hussar gains a level.

This replaces all the fencer's bonus feats.

Nimble Skirmisher (Ex)

At level 9 the hussar learns to become a nimble skirmisher. When riding her mount, as a full-round action, the hussar and her mount may move and attack (as the attack action) and then move again. The mount may not attack. Her total movement for the round can't exceed double the mount's speed. The hussar and her mount does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the target of the attack. This replaces cunning opportunist.

Cunning Advance (Ex)

At 14th level when riding her mount, the hussar learns to goad her mount in close. When the hussar successfully parries the attack of an opponent with reach, the hussar's mount can take a free action to move adjacent to the attacker, allowing the hussar to riposte. This move does not trigger an attack of opportunity. This replaces aggressive defense.
