Controlled Lands Kingdom
Every controlled lands kingdom was once a frontier kingdom. Their borders are usually fixed; stabilised and boxed in by other kingdoms, although sometimes there's a gap of wild lands between kingdoms (often for monster hunting purposes, sometimes for other reasons). Each kingdom is unique, with its own landscape, theme, and idiosyncrasies.
Elementals (pg 66)
Layers of magic compressed around a core, such as a leaf or stone. Elementals feed on magic, like that which powers border shields, and as such are a common nuisance for frontier princesses. Elementals generally have a Tier at least equal to the kingdom's Wild. When destroyed, an elemental releases the magic it's formed of, raising Chaos by its Tier. Nearby princesses may attempt to calm and control this explosion, rolling Weird against the elemental's Tier and reducing the Chaos increase by one for each level of success.
Fairies
Small flying magical monsters that are companions to princesses, helpful and loyal. Fairies fill many roles in princess society, and there's a deep shared respect between fairies and princesses.
Frontier Kingdom
One of the hundreds of kingdoms at the very edge of the known lands, bordering the chaotic and dangerous wild lands. The successful establishment of frontier kingdoms is vital to the continued growth and prosperity of Princess World.
Frontier Princess
Those brave princesses who fight against the forces of chaos and entropy to grow their frontier kingdoms into something strong and lasting. Being a frontier princess is seen as noble and worthy, a rite of passage, of sorts, and successfully establishing a kingdom is often the first step towards bigger and brighter things.
Home Kingdom
The kingdom a princess grew up and lived in, before attending the academy. Often (but not always) related to her speciality.
Inner Kingdom
In the heart of the controlled lands are the inner kingdoms, the first kingdoms established, all of them powerful, most of them relatively large. Life in the inner kingdoms is far removed from the frontier, and inner kingdom princesses have a reputation for being a bit out of touch and precious. Of course, they're also the ones who make all of the big decisions concerning this Princess World.
Monsters
Solidified magic in an often hostile form. Part of life in this Princess World. When destroyed monsters usually poof into candy or food. It's usually delicious. Groups of monsters generally have a Tier equal to the kingdom's Wild. Scale is often a factor, when a princess is dealing with groups of monsters.
Princess Academy
The school where young princesses learn how to control their powers, how to properly behave, and perhaps to figure out what direction they wish to take, in this Princess World. Located in the inner kingdoms. Most frontier princesses are recent graduates of the academy, looking to prove themselves in the wider world.
Princess World
The place where all of this happens, a world of wild chaotic energy that can only be tamed by the efforts of princesses, those individuals with the ability to channel and focus magic. The terribly civilised part of the world is known as the controlled lands, and is made up of established kingdoms, most of them relatively small.
Rebel Princesses
Those who have the power of a princess but who are not, for whatever reason, officially recognised as a princess. Generally found in the wild lands, where they use makeshift shields to stabilise their cramped hideouts. Often a nuisance to frontier princesses, who have to deal with these non-existent rebels pinching things and stirring up trouble in the wild lands. Still, sometimes a shaky alliance is forged between frontier princesses and rebels. They're all a long way from the inner kingdoms, after all.
Rogue Fairies
Fairies whose core gems have been cracked or warped, or who are just fed up with the state of things. Usually fiercely individual, cunning, manipulative, and experts at going unnoticed. Commonly found with rebel princesses. Quite often the brains of the operation.
The Wild Lands
Everything that isn't within the borders of the controlled lands, a dangerous and unpredictable place of chaotic magic, monsters, elementals, dreams and nightmares. The wild lands is vastly larger than the controlled lands. If you picture the entirety of Princess World as an orange, the controlled lands would be the little green bit at the top, and the wild lands would be everything else.
Wild Surge (pg 68)
An explosion of wild magic. Unpredictable and often destructive, but sometimes with beneficial effects. Wild surges can occur when you're near (or in) the wild lands. Specific triggers include getting doubles on the Chaos Sets The Stage roll or when channelling wild magic.
