Class Features

This archetype has all rogue class features, except as noted. If the sapper gains a feat he already has, he gets to select a replacement he fulfills the prerequisites for. The same applies to rogue talents.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Sappers are proficient with all simple weapons, all firearms (where available), plus the earth breaker, heavy pick, light hammer, light pick, and pickaxe. They are proficient with light armor, medium armor, and with shields (including tower shields). This replaces two skill points per level.

Sapping

At 2nd level, a sapper can inflict great harm on objects. He gains the rogue talent Sapping an can use Knowledge (Engineering) in place of Disable Device and Perception when opening locks or finding and disabling traps or secret doors. Using Knowledge (Engineering) to disable a door, trap, or lock destroys it. Knowledge (Engineering) gains the benefit from Trapfinding and trap- or lock-related rogue talents when used like this.

Sapping replaces evasion. A sapper cannot select improved evasion as an advanced rogue talent unless he first gains evasion from some other source. SXee also pavise and greater pavise, below.

Pavise (Ex)

At 4th level the sapper gains Pavise as a bonus feat. When using a pavise, the sapper gains the benefits of the evasion rogue class feature and can use this ability regardless of armor or encumbrance. This does not count having evasion for feat prerequisites. In addition, he can use the Stealth skill to hide behind the pavise and is also considered to have cover when using the Sneaky Sniper rogue talent, but must acquire the talent before she can use this benefit. Pavise replaces uncanny dodge.

Improved Pavise

At 8th level the sapper gains Improved Pavise as a bonus feat. This replaces improved uncanny dodge.

Improved Critical

A sapper gains Improved Critical as a bonus feat at level 11. If she already knows this feat, she gains finesse training instead. This replaces finesse training from level 11.

Greater Pavise (Ex)

At level 11, when using a pavise, the sapper gains the benefits of the rogue talent Improved Evasion and can use this ability regardless of armor or encumbrance.

Critical Focus

A sapper gains Critical Focus as a bonus feat at level 19. If she already knows this feat, she gains finesse training instead. This replaces finesse training from level 19.
