Throughout the wilderness, there are those warriors whose powers are infused by the spirits, who see and hear into the world beyond and draw unthinkable reserves of power from it. They are the chosen of the gods, and they often hold status equal to that of a chief or shaman in a typical tribe. Rage prophets can dispense advice through their communion with the spirits and ability to divine the future.

The most popular oracle mystery among rage prophets is that of battle, for skill in battle is respected in barbarian society, but oracles of all mysteries find their way into positions as war-chiefs, counselors, and leaders. Some rage prophets choose to live apart or to act as wandering champions, belonging to all tribes and none, following the lead of their spirit guides rather than the dictates of any one tribal chief or council. Though sometimes looked at askance by tribal leaders, these wanderers are popular with many barbarians, who see them as the perfect exemplars of the strength, virtue, and power of the free folk, owing nothing to anyone but the sky above, the earth beneath, and the spirits within.

Class Information

This is a prestige archetype and a multiclass archetype. A rage prophet cannot multiclass with a either of it's build classes, or with any of their subclasses, combination classes, or multiclass archetypes.

Prestige Class: Rage prophet.

Build Classes: Barbarian, oracle.

The rage prophet combines oracle and barbarian.

Role: The rage prophet has considerable spellcasting ability, but it usually serves as a conduit to enhance his fighting prowess. His combat skills are considerable and his ability to keep himself going in any fight and to focus his physical rage into supernatural power gives him an unexpected boost in power and versatility to overcome any challenge.

Alignment: Rage prophets may be of any non-lawful alignment, but chaotic alignments are more common, as they are in the barbarian tribes from which they hail. Wandering rage prophets are usually chaotic, living apart from any tribe and the tribal structure of their heritage as they take up the adventuring life.

Hit Die: d10.

Class Skills

The rage prophet’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Acrobatics (Dex), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Knowledge (planes) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Perception (Wis), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int) Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).

Skill Ranks at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Class Features

This is all the class features of the rage prophet.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A rage prophet is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Spells

A rage prophet learns and casts sells like an oracle does, except that the spells per day and spells known are different. See Table: Rage Prophet and Table: Rage Prophet Spells Known. A rage prophet never learns oracle spells of level 7 or higher, and these spells are not on his spell list. Like an oracle, a rage prophet learns either cure or inflict spells as soon as he can cast them.

A rage prophet is able to cast rage oracle spells when raging without using moment of clarity.

Fast Movement (Ex)

A rage oracle's land speed is faster than the norm for his race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian's speed because of any load carried or armor worn. This bonus stacks with any other bonuses to the barbarian's land speed.

Mystery

Each rage prophet draws upon a mystery to grant him spells and powers. This mystery also grants additional class skills and other special abilities. This mystery represents the rage prophets link to his spirit guide and through the guide to an ideal, deity, or mysterious natural power. The mystery manifests in a number of ways as the rage prophet gains levels.

A rage prophet must pick one mystery upon taking his first level in the class. Once made, this choice cannot be changed. Mysteries are selected from those available to oracles.

At 2nd level, and every three levels thereafter until level 16, a rage prophet learns an additional spell derived from his mystery. These spells are in addition to the number of spells given on Table: Rage Prophet Spells Known. They cannot be exchanged for different spells at higher levels. Rage prophet's never learn mystery spells of level 7 or higher.

Oracle's Curse

This is exactly the same as the oracle ability of the same name, counting rage prophet levels as oracle levels.

Orisons

Rage prophets learn a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, as noted on Table: Rage Prophet Spells Known under “Spells Known.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.

Rage (Ex)

A rage prophet can call upon inner reserves of strength and ferocity, granting him additional combat prowess. Starting at 1st level, a rage prophet can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + his Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, he can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells like bear's endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a rage prophet can rage per day. A rage prophet can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive.

While in rage, a rage prophet gains a +4 morale bonus to his Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, he takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a rage prophet cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.

A rage prophet can end his rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A rage prophet cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a rage prophet falls unconscious, his rage immediately ends, placing him in peril of death.

Spirit Guide (Sp)

Every rage prophet of 2nd level or higher possesses a spirit guide, an insubstantial phantom that speaks to his mind, watches over him, and lends him its strength and wisdom. The spirit guide also allows the rage prophet to use dancing lights, ghost sound, and mage hand as spell-like abilities once per day each (caster level equal to the rage prophet’s class level). The DCs are Charisma-based.

Whenever the rage prophet rages, he gains the benefit of a single guidance spell from his spirit guide; this bonus can be used at any time during his rage.

Rage Prophecy

At 3rd level and every three levels thereafter, a rage prophet gains a rage prophecy. This can ether be a rage power or an additional spell from his spirit guide.

Rage powers work the same as barbarian rage powers, counting rage prophet levels as barbarian levels. No more than half of all rage prophecies may be rage powers (round up).

Spirit guide spells are in addition to those listed in Table: Rage Prophet Spells Known. Like spells from an oracle’s mystery, the rage prophet cannot exchange these spells for different spells at higher levels. The rage prophet must be able to cast oracle spells of the listed level to learn one of these spells from his spirit guide. The rage prophet treats the spell as an oracle spell of the listed level. The possible spells are arcane eye (4th), augury (2nd), divination (4th), dream (5th), find the path (6th), helping hand (3rd), see invisibility (2nd), shadow walk (6th), speak with dead (3rd), spectral hand (2nd), spiritual weapon (2nd), unseen servant (1st), vision (6th), and whispering wind (2nd).

Indomitable Caster (Ex)

At 5th level, a rage prophet adds his Constitution bonus (if any) on concentration checks.

Revelation

At 6th level, and every six levels thereafter (12th, 18th), a rage prophet uncovers a new secret about his mystery that grants him powers and abilities. The rage prophet must select a revelation from the list of revelations available to his mystery. If a revelation is chosen at a later level, the rage prophet gains all of the abilities and bonuses granted by that revelation based on his current level. Unless otherwise noted, activating the power of a revelation is a standard action. Unless otherwise noted, the DC to save against these revelations is equal to 10 + 1/2 the rage prophet’s level + the rage prophet’s Charisma modifier.

Spirit Guardian (Sp)

At 8th level, the competence bonus provided by the spirit guide’s guidance spell increases to +2 when used while battling a fey, outsider, undead, or incorporeal creature. This bonus increases to +3 at 12th level and +4 at 16th level.

As a swift action, the rage prophet can spend 1 round of rage (whether he is raging or not) to give his armor and weapons the ghost touch property for 1 round; this effect ends if the item is no longer in his possession.

Rage Spell (Ex)

A rage prophet of level 9 can cast spells and wield his weapons at the same time while in a rage. As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon(s) at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the class spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action (any attack roll made as part of this spell also takes the penalty). A rage prophet can choose to cast the spell first or make the weapon attacks first, but if he has more than one attack, he cannot cast the spell between weapon attacks.

Enduring Rage (Su)

At 11th level, as a free action, a rage prophet can extend the duration of his rage by sacrificing a spell slot; this prolongs the duration of his rage for a number of rounds equal to the level of the spell slot used.

Greater Rage (Ex)

At 14th level, when a rage prophet enters a rage, his morale bonus to Strength and Constitution increases to +6 and his morale bonus on Will saves increases to +3.

Ragecaster (Su)

Starting at 17th level, a rage prophet’s spells grow more potent when he rages. He adds his Constitution bonus to the save DC of any spells cast while raging.

Spirit Warrior (Su)

At 19th level, the competence bonus provided by the rage prophet’s guidance increases to half his rage prophet level when used while battling a fey, outsider, undead, or incorporeal creature. His ability to give his armor and weapons the ghost touch property becomes an immediate action instead of a swift action.

Final Revelation

At 20th level, a rage prophet learns the final revelation about his mystery, granting him amazing powers and abilities. The nature of these bonuses depends upon the rage prophet's mystery.
