Some rangers choose to focus on particular weapons instead of enemies.

Class Abilities

This archetype has all normal class abilities, except as noted.

Favored Weapon

At 5th level, a favored weapon ranger selects a favored weapon. This is one specific type of weapon, such as longsword or composite longbow. He gains a +1 bonus on attack, damage, and on CMB and CMD when using that weapon. He also gains a +1 bonus on skill rolls involving the weapon, including Appraise, Bluff, Craft, Sleight of Hand, and Spellcraft checks to feint, touch with (see quarry below), draw, hide, create, repair, evaluate, or identify weapons of this type.

At 10th level and every five levels thereafter (15th and 20th level), the favored weapon ranger ranger may select an additional favored weapon.

At 10th level the favored weapon ranger must decide to focus on certain weapons or to practice all favored weapons equally. If practicing all weapons equally, the bonus to each weapon increases to +2 and remains there. If focusing, the bonus with any one favored weapon (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by +1, potentially gaining a greater bonus at higher level.

A ranger with the two weapon fighting style can select a specific set of two melee weapons as a favored weapon, rather than just a single weapon. When doing so, he only gets the bonus when wielding the two weapons together - wielding just one of them gives no bonus. He need not actually attack with both weapons to get the bonus, and the non-combat bonuses always apply to both weapon types, regardless of if he is wielding a weapon at all.

This replaces the Favored Enemy class ability.

Quarry and Improved Quarry

A favored weapon ranger can use these abilities against any target he has touched with a favored weapon. This need not be a damaging attack, merely bumping into someone with your weapon qualifies. Missile weapons count their ammunition for this ability. Touching someone with your weapon is a touch attack or ranged touch attack as appropriate. It can be done surreptitiously with a successful Bluff or Sleight of Hand check.
