The companion shaman has a guardian spirit that takes the form of a physical creature.
Class Features
The familiar shaman has all the standard shaman’s class features, except as noted below.
Companion Guide
A familiar shaman chooses either a familiar or animal companion as a guide, treating her class level as her wizard or druid level for the purpose of this ability. If the companion guide is slain, the companion shaman gains the regular shaman's spirit guide ability until she replaces her companion guide.
This replaces the detect spirit, spirit guide, guide concentration, guide walk, and spirit loyalty abilities
Guide Development
The the companion guide gains new supernatural acuity at level 7. This has a different effect depending on what for the companion guide takes.
An animal companion gains an +2 bonus to Intelligence and the ability to speak one language the shaman speaks, usually common. The animal companion gains a +2 bonus to Intelligence for every four class levels after level 4.
A companion shaman with a familiar can choose between gaining Improved Familiar as a bonus feat or to give his familiar the ability to cast invisibility on itself at will as a spell-like ability at the companion shaman's spellcaster level.
