High performance engines are slowly being developed in the Crimson Skies universe. These are mostly inline engines, and they are able to greatly increae the yeild on a pound-for-pound basis. But they are expensive, require large amounts of maintenace, and run well only on special hi-octane fuels.

1. A heigh-performance engine requires only half the usual wight for Maximum Speed.
   
   
2. Cost is tripled.
   
   
3. Each engine requires a full-time technician for maintenace.
   
   
4. Only high-octane fuel can be safely used. This is a severe supply limitation. Inflict one fracture on the engine location for each turn spent at maximum speed (or above) using regular fuel.
