Bind Source Guardian
Sources are the province of magic and monsters. The energy of a source can be used by someone tapping it from regency points to bind a guardian, a monster that will defend the source from despoilers. This is somewhat like fortifying a source, but uses an entirely different mechanism. This spell summons a monster like a summon monster or call nature's ally spell with a level equal to the the source or temple holding level. The cost in GB is equal tot he holding level; the cost in regency is twice that. The monsters owe no particular loyalty to the caster, but they will not interfere with his use of the source, raid nearby settlements or allow anyone else to come to the source without the caster's permission. Monsters summonned to guard temples ae usually kept in some hidden location, to avoid interfering with visitors. Typical Cerilian monsters can be found on page 89 of the Birthright Rulebook. Unclaimed sources tend to naturally attract guardian monsters along the same lines, but even tougher. |
