Background

Lord among the tritons off Gana, Jumal comes to the courts in Gana and Jumlat yearly to make treaties concerning the pear-fishing off these coasts. His major objective is to keep contact between humans and tritons to a minimum. He comes alone, but richly appointed, and is treated like royalty in both cities, who try to curry his favour when negotiating the treaty.

It is said that the royal family of Gana has triton blood in their veins, and that the original treaty was established through a marriage between the sultan of Gana and a triton princess, long ago. It is also said that a human princess entered the sea to live as a bride among the tritons, and that Jumal is descended from this union.
