Background

Omar is a tall, thin man, still young and vigorous. The son of Kamal al Jumlat and the brother of Samia.

He takes his duty to see his sister safely to Gana seriously, and he is impatient to finish so that he can go back to his comfortable home and family in Jumlat. Omar, though a perfectly pleasant man, is lacking in humour and feels much more at home behind a desk than on a camel.

Omar is not at all pleased with Samia's genie-relations and wants her to get married and live a '' life. He recognises when things go over his head, though.

During visits to Samia in Gana, he fell in love with E'mrada, and the two were wed. She is his second wife, and the plan is for her to stay in Gana, keeping a merchantile house there.
