Background

Djuhah Min Daikan Al-Medina is well known in Ajayib as a leading researcher of the nature of magical beasts. A month ago, he decided to move his base of operations and his home in Daikan (in the Panthon lands) to Zvern, where the wizards' College of Jaarth is located.

The sword Luckblade and a ring of three wishes was to be delivered to him from The White Agate in Huzuz by Jacinth, but she was ambushed by Gnolls, the hook for the ' Bite the Moon' scenario. He wants the sword because of legend of it fighting basilisks, dao and yak-men.

The players delivered three live cocatrices to him in Moving Day. He later brought them to the attention of Ramoon Enano al-Bait for Shards of the Day, and offered them magic items for their reward after the shards were recovered.

Djuhah's current research project concerns the petrifaction ability of the cockatrice. If all goes well, he hopes to present a paper on this topic to the Prestidigitator's Convention to be held in two months in Zvern. Advance publicity of this anticipated event has greatly increased interest in the ordinarily quiet convention, and so far the lure of Djuhah's paper has been the primary draw. A successful presentation will definitely increase Djuhah's standing among his peers, but a failure will be a serious professional setback and leave many disappointed and annoyed conventioneers.

Until recently, Djuhah's research had been hindered by the lack of viable specimens. Just a week ago, however, Djuhah was able to obtain five cockatrices in excellent health. This acquisition came too late to travel with the main shipment of his household goods, Djuhah arranged for the Beni Ennans to take the beasts. He anticipated that the journey would be quiet, and he would be able to continue his research in time to make his presentation.
