Gadgeteers use items to power themselves. This is usually technological items, but magic items are possible as well. Each power takes the form of a gadget, and losing a gadget means you lose the use of that power. The same is true of exceptional attributes; any attribute over 8 requires a gadget, and if you lose the gadget, the attribute is halved (rounding up).
