Some traditions have restrictions on their magic. Unlike Geas and Bane, these are not magical restrictions as much as practical restrictions. Unlike Hocus Pocus, they are very specific.
Typical restrictions include:
Precise Gestures: You can't cast spells when bound, encumbered, grappled, or hanging by your fingernails. Wearing armor incurs a Sorcery penalty equal to the Reflex penalty of the armor.
Music or Recitation: Cannot use magic if silenced. Sound barriers between you and your target hinder your spells - and so can very strong noises.
Kata: Your magic is focused through ritualized combat moves, and you must be able to move around as if fighting in melee in order to cast spells. You cannot cast spells while seated, bound or in a constrained space. Your performance might be beautiful, but is is quite noticeable.
