If this succeeds, you learn something you can do to dramatically improve your relationship. In combat this only teaches you how to surrender in such a way that you will be spared. In social situations it gives you a perfect topic of conversation or just the right thing to do to win his favor. The drawback is that the things certain people demand in order to give their trust can be uncomfortable, demeaning or cruel, but then you at least learn what kind of people they are.
