Cyber / Rules / Using Cyber

Cyberware usually have a specific effect or replace a certain value under certain conditions. Only rarely is a skill involved, and this is usually Guns, Martial Arts or Fix-It. There is no special skill governing the use of Cyberware.

Hiding Cyber

Cyberware is generally hidden. Most cultures do not appreciate the fact that you are part metal, and the stigma makes most people want to hide their metal parts. Advanced security sensors, such as those at important secure installations in modern junctures, can detect it, as can a medical examination and close examination of your chi flow. But normal sensors, such as those at an airport, cannot.

However, some systems are simply too bulky to be hidden. The bulk of a cyber system is determined by the number of schticks you have in each particular enhancement. Many enhancements can only be taken once, and those are generally slick. Some cyber systems are always obvious, no matter how many schticks you take in them. This applies to most large-scale body enhancements. See the description of each particular schtick.

Bulk

Cyberware that can be taken several times become slightly more bulky for each pick you take. As you load up on metal, you become more inhuman, and at very high levels deployed cyberware will change your basic form. Eight picks is the usual maximum for cyberware.

Picks Signature when turned on Signature when turned off
1 Slick Slick
2 Visible to sensors Slick
3-4 Visible at close range Visible to sensors
5-6 Visible at range Visible at close range
7-8 Visible at range Visible at range

Skin Graft helps you to conceal your cyberware visually, while Mask helps you disguise its sensor signature.
