Cyber / Limitations / Behavior Chip

A popular device, with many applications in psychology and crime prevention, but also the perfect tool for an autocratic regime. In the Cyber Papacy, it is known as the Faith Chip. It takes the shape of a small device that can be plugged into a cybernetic interface port or surgically installed.

The Behavior Chip contains a set of goals and objectives for the individual and his behavior, that he will normally obey with enthusiasm. Through a concerted effort of will the character can fight the chip, but this is very difficult. Make a Willpower roll with a difficulty of 10. For each point of negative outcome, the chip is in total control for one sequence. For each point of positive outcome, the character has control of himself for one sequence. If you manage a positive outcome of ten, the Behavior Chip burns itself out.

Certain behavior chips trigger only under certain circumstances, such as a mole chip that makes you report on you activities each day or a traitor chip that makes you turn on your comrades in a particular situation.

A Behavior Chip that is not surgically installed but simply plugged into a cybernetic interface port can be inserted or removed with a difficult combat stunt. If you have such a chip inside of you, you must first try to seize control, before you can try to remove it.

The Slave Chip from Tharkold is similar, but based on Arcanotech.

Buddy Chip

The BuddyChip is essentially a toned-down Behavior Chip that you are supposedly in control of. It is a schtick and not a flaw - listed here just as a reference.

Personality Chip

A variant known as Personality Chips contain entire encoded personalities, with separate skills and mental attributes. The difficulty of resisting commands from such a construct is the construct's highest action value, while it takes an Outcome matching the construct's Willpower to fry the chip. An encoded construct uses it's own skills but the victim's physical attributes while in full control. Such a construct cannot use Chi points, powers or skills unless fitted with ChiWires. Various stages of shared contol, devil's bargains and cooperation are definitely possible as plot hooks.

Player character's who wish to encode themselves on Personality Chips can do so for a session or two with the help of a BrainTape, but entirely chipped characters are not recommended, they can't kick ass with the rest.

Spirit Chip

Created in the Cyberpapacy with the help of the God Net, Spirit Chips contain the soul of a living person, and thus can use that person's Chi-related attributes and skills. If the chip is destroyed, the soul contained within dies, something the Personality Chip's pattern model need not fear
