You have a knack for returning to fight another day. When you fight a named opponent that you have fought previously in the same adventure, you get a +1 Action Value bonus per hostile encounter with this character during the current adventure. The second time you face the same character during one adventure, you get a +2 bonus, the third time the bonus is +3 and so on. There is no bonus the first time around. This schtick is almost unknown among villains.
