To learn or cast a spell, a occult investigator must have a Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a occult investigator’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the occult investigator’ Intelligence modifier. A occult investigator can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level each day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Occult investigator Spells. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Intelligence score (see Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells).

A occult investigator’ selection of spells is extremely limited. A occult investigator begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of the occult investigator’ choice. At each new occult investigator level, he gains one or more new spells as indicated on Table: Occult investigator Spells . (Unlike spells per day, the number of spells a occult investigator knows is not affected by his Intelligence score. The numbers on Table: Occult investigator Spells are fixed.)
+
Spellbooks: A mystic investigator must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells. He cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook except for ''read magic'', which all mystic investigators can prepare from memory. A mystic investigator begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level bard spells plus three 1st-level bard spells of his choice. The mystic investigator also selects a number of additional 1st-level bard spells equal to his Intelligence modifier to add to his spellbook. At each new mystic investigator level, he gains two new bard spells of any spell level or levels that he can cast (based on his new mystic investigator level) for his spellbook. At any time, a mystic investigator can also add spells found in other spellbooks to his own.

'''Knacks:''' Occult investigators learn a number of knacks, or 0-level spells, as noted on Table: Occult Investigator  Spells Known. These spells are cast like any other spell, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.
+
A mystic investigator can learn spells from a wizard’s spellbook, just as a wizard can from a mystic investigator’s spellbook. The spells learned must be on the bard spell list. An alchemist can learn formulas from a mystic investigator’s spellbook, if the spells are also on the alchemist spell list. A mystic investigator cannot learn spells from an alchemist. This replaces alchemy and swift alchemy. A mystic investigator cannot take the alchemist discovery talent or any investigator talent that affects alchemy.

Upon reaching 5th level, and at every third occult investigator level thereafter (8th, 11th, and so on), a occult investigator can choose to learn a new spell in place of one he already knows. In effect, the occult investigator “loses” the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. A occult investigator may swap out only a single spell at any given level and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that he gains new spells known for the level.
+
=== Cantrips (Sp) ===
 +
A mystic investigator can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table: Mystic Investigator under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Mystic investigators are in touch with the arcane, combining keen intellect and magical trickery.

Class Information

This is an investigator archetype that replaces alchemy with bard spells.

Hit Die: d8.

Class Features

The mystic investigator has all the standard investigator’s class features, except as noted below.

Spells

A mystic investigator casts arcane spells drawn from the bard spell list. A mystic investigator must choose and prepare his spells ahead of time.

To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the mystic investigator must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a mystic investigator’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the mystic investigator’s Intelligence modifier. A mystic investigator can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Mystic Investigator. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Intelligence score.

A mystic investigator may know any number of spells. He must choose and prepare his spells ahead of time by getting 8 hours of sleep and spending 1 hour studying his spellbook. While studying, the mystic investigator decides which spells to prepare.

Cantrips: A mystic investigator can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table: Mystic Investigator under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Spellbooks: A mystic investigator must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells. He cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook except for read magic, which all mystic investigators can prepare from memory.

Cantrips (Sp)

A mystic investigator can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table: Mystic Investigator under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.
