This is an original Exemplar subclass for 5A.

The exemplar fought his way into the house, dodging an weaving through a number of bandits, leaving a wake of dead, wounded, and fleeing bandits. Finally reaching the innermost room, the retreating bandits had struck down their hostage. "I am afraid you came to late, hero" was the laconic greeting. Oh hush, if you can speak, my god can restore ya! Kneeling beside the hostage, a prayer loud and heart-piercing sent streams of golden light into the stricken woman.

Mystics are dabblers in religion. Not nearly as powerful as a cleric, the mystic is in a creature of both worlds—crafty, able, and in touch with a higher power.

1st Level: Focus Ability

Your Focus Ability is Wisdom. You are proficient in Intelligence and Wisdom saving throws.

2nd Level: Mystic Tricks

You can choose these tricks only available to Occultists.

  • Fast Help. When you cast a spell that only affects you and/or your allies, you can use the Cast Spell action as a bonus action.
  • Healing Power. When you cast a spell that restores hit points, you can use this trick to add your Exemplar Die to the hit points each target recovers. This does not use a die from your Exemplar Dice pool.
  • Holy Strike. When you cause damage to an opponent, you use this trick to deal additional radiant damage equal to your Exemplar Die to that creature. This does not use a die from your Exemplar Dice pool.
  • Spell and Smite. When you use the Attack action you can, on the same turn, use a bonus action to take the Cast a Spell action.

3rd Level: Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you augment your skills with the ability to cast cleric spells.

Spell List When you gain this ability, choose either the cleric or druid spell list. This is your exemplar spell list.

Cantrips

You learn three cantrips of your choice from your chosen spell list. You learn an additional cantrip of your choice at 9th and 15th level.

Spell Slots

The Mystic Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. For example, if you know the 1st-level spell Bless and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast Bless using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level spells of your choice from your spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Mystic Spellcasting table shows when you learn more spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the spells you know with another spell of your choice from your chosen spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your mystic spells. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability.

Spell save DC = 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom modifier (same as your trick save ability)

Spell attack modifier = your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom modifier

6th Level: Mystic Dice

You can use Exemplar Dice in new and interesting ways.

  • When you cast a spell that affects a single target, you can expend an Exemplar Die and affect a number of targets equal to half the die result, rounded down. Because of rounding, on a die result of 1-3, you still only affect a single target.
  • You can spend a bonus action seeking mystic insights. Roll an exemplar die and halve the result. You immediately learn one spell of this level or lower from your mystic spell list of a level you have spell slots. Because of rounding, on a die result of 1, you can only learn a cantrip. You retain knowledge of this spell until the start of you next long rest.
  • You can use Exemplar Dice to cast a spell as a ritual. Roll an exemplar die and halve the result. Pick a spell from your mystic spell list of this level or lower. You can immediately cast this spell once as a ritual.

10th Level: Mystic Recovery

You have learned to regain some of your mystical energy by meditation. Once per day when you finish a short rest, you can choose expended spell slots to recover. The spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than one third your exemplar level (rounded up).

For example, if you're a 11th-level exemplar, you can recover up to three levels worth of spell slots. You can recover either a 2nd-level and 1st level spell slot, spell slot or three 1st-level spell slots. You cannot recover a 3rd level spell slots as you have no such spell slots to recover.

14th Level: Mystic Resilience

You can spend your reaction to grant yourself or an ally within 30 feet advantage on a saving throw.
