In a band of rogues, there is often one that is larger than the others, stronger, but slower and not quite as nimble. This heavy has specialized roles; to bash in doors, to give lighter team mates a boost when climbing, to carry heavy loot, and when push comes to shove, to stand firm and provide cover to companions and smack enemies. Sadly, the role also carries some prejudices as well. Other rogues often see the heavy as dumb and expendable, the one to hold the door as the rest of the gang escapes. Some heavies confirm to this stereotype, others play on it to their own advantage.

Archetype Features

Bonus Proficiencies

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the flail, maul, net, heavy crossbow, warhammer, and with medium armor. You are also considered proficient with improvised weapons such as chairs, bottles, and mugs, but not with alchemical items like acid or alchemist's fire.

Sneak Smack

At 3rd level you can sneak attack with any weapon you are proficient with. In addition to normal situations you can use sneak attack, you can also sneak attack any creature that suffers from the Frightened or Grappled condition.

Strongman

At 9th level you have advantage on all Strength (Athletics) checks. As a bonus action or as a reaction to an ally's movement or an attack on an ally, you can grab a willing ally who is of your own size category or smaller in your reach and deposit them in any space within 10 ft. of you. At level 13, the distance at which you can deposit allies increases to 20 ft, and at level 17 it increases to 30 ft. This movement does not count against your ally's movement and does not trigger effects triggered by movement. If you do this as a reaction when the ally is about to take damage, the damage is halved.

Surprising Strength

At 13th level, when you spend an action to make a Strength or Strength (Athletics) check and you could sneak attack the target, add your number of sneak attack dice to the result of the check. On a success you can roll your sneak attack damage and inflict that damage on the target. This applies to both item and creature targets, and you automatically sneak attack unattended items.

Bowl Over

At 17th level, when you inflict bludgeoning damage on a creature, you can also make a Strength (Athletics) check to Shove that creature. This check can benefit from the Surprising Strength ability, above.
