Eternal monks are neutral devotees of balance. More a state of mind than an order, some monks of other orders retire to become eternal monks. Eschewing the discipline of most monks, eternal monks take each day as it comes, only taking action if they feel the balance is threatened. They keep their minds and bodies practiced trough meditation and simple exercises they make a part of their everyday activities. The balance eternal monks serve is one of eternal change, not simple rigidity. They tolerate temporary changes, seeing this as the ebb and flow of ki, only intervening when they feel the balance is seriously threatened. The more powerful the eternal monk is, the less likely he is to take action.

Class Information

This is a martial arts archetype

Class: Unchained monk.

Alignment: Neutral, neutral evil, or neutral good only.

Hit Die: d10.

Class Features

The eternal monk has all the monks class features, except as follows.

Woodland Stride (Ex)

Starting at 4th level, an eternal monk may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at his normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion, however, still affect him. This is the same as the druid ability of the same name and replaces still mind.

Ki Powers (Sp)

Add the following powers to the ki powers available to the eternal monk.

These ki powers are spell-like abilities. An eternal monk’s class level is the caster level for these spell-like abilities, and she uses Wisdom to determine her concentration check bonus.

Most ki powers require the monk to spend ki points; the exact amount is listed after the ki power. ki powers that cost 0 ki do not require the monk to have any ki points in her ki pool to use the ability. The saving throw against a monk’s ki power, if any, is equal to 10 + 1/2 the monk’s level + the monk’s Wisdom bonus.

Magic aura, 1 ki point.
Nimble Moves , 0 ki points, self only.

Ki Pool (su)

At 10th level, the eternal monk's unarmed strikes are treated as both chaotic, evil, good, and lawful weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. This changes the ki pool ability.

Eternal Life (Ex)

At 17th level, the eternal monk no longer risks dying from old age. He suffers the normal effects of old age but has no maximum age. This replaces timeless body.

Ascended Self

At 20th level, an eternal monk becomes a magical creature. His type changes to outsider. He does not need to eat or sleep, but still needs to breathe. Additionally, he gains damage reduction 20/chaotic, evil, good or lawful. Finally, the eternal monk gains the ability to enter a state of perfect calm. During this time, the monk can take no actions, but he does regain ki at the rate of 1 point per 10 minutes spent at calm. He cannot use this ability to gain an amount of ki in excess of his maximum.

Ex Monks

An ex-monk that fulfills the alignment prerequisite become an eternal monk after a month of meditation and training.

Ex-Eternal Monks

An eternal monk that changes to a non-allowed alignment loses all abilities gained from the archetypes and does not regain the abilities he gave up. After a month of retraining, he can become a standard monk or take up another monk archetype as long as his current alignment allows him to.
