This is a Bard subclass for 5A.

Formally The College of Chanting, chanters are bards that focus on spiritual matters and music accompanying religious ceremonies.

Subclass Features

Bonus Proficiencies

When you become an chanter at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Religion. If you already have this skill, you become proficient in History. If you have both these skills, you become proficient in a skill of your choice.

Domain

Also at 3rd level, you select a cleric domain appropriate to your faith. You gain abilities based on this domain.

  • At 3rd level when you select your domain, you gain the 1st level ability of that domain.
  • At 6th level, you gain the level 6th level ability of your chosen domain.
  • At 14th level, you can spend one use of Bardic Inspiration to use your domain's Channel Divinity ability.

When a domain feature mentions your cleric level, use your bard level instead. When a domain feature mentions heavy armor, replace that mention by medium armor. When a domain feature mentions your Wisdom ability bonus, use your Charisma ability bonus instead. When a domain feature allows a saving throw, use your spell saving throw DC. You never get the level 8 and level 17 domain features.

Cleric Spells

At 3rd level, your link to the divine allows you to learn spells normally associated with the cleric class. When your Spellcasting feature lets you learn a bard cantrip or a bard spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose the new spell from the cleric spell list or the sorcerer spell list. When the Bardic Versatility ability allows you to exchange one spell for another, you can exchange for a spell from the bard or cleric spell lists. You must otherwise obey all the restrictions for selecting the spell, and it becomes a bard spell for you. You can use a holy symbol as a spell focus.

Domain Spells

Each domain has a list of spells-its domain spells that you gain at the bard levels noted in the domain description, except that you gain both the 1st and 3rd level domain spells when you join this college at 3rd level. Domain spells are known spells to you but don't count against your limit on known spells. If you have a domain spell that doesn't appear on the bard spell list, the spell is nonetheless a bard spell for you.

Designer's Notes

A divine magic variant of the bard. The most important ability is domain spells added to added known spells. The domain abilities are a so-so fit for a bard, not as good as they are for the rogue's Saint of Sinners subclass. The sorcerer's divine soul subclass could be a model for a chanter that does not use domains, but has to be reworked completely for bards.
