A bloodhound adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks. He suffers only half the usual penalties for tracks obscured by the passage of time or other creatures. In instances where tracking would normally be impossible, he can still follow the track with a -20 penalty on Survival checks to track.

Unofficial rules compendium

The bloodhound is not smart or witty. The bloodhound does not know the latest alchemical tricks. The bloodhound is just relentless, never giving up his pursuit. His persistence gradually earns him the respect of both mundane and supernatural allies, who guide him and give limited access to divine spells.

Class Information

This is an investigator archetype that casts ranger spells.

Hit Die: d8.

Class Skills

The investigator's class skills are Acrobatics (Dex), Appraise (Int), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disable Device (Dex), Escape Artist (Dex), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (all) (Int), Linguistics (Int), Perception (Wis), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), Stealth (Dex), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), and Use Magic Device (Cha).

Skill Ranks per Level: 6 + Int modifier.

Class Features

The bloodhound has all investigator class features, except as noted.

Spells

The bloodhound casts divine spells like a ranger. Spells, endurance, track, and combat style replaces alchemy.

Endurance

A bloodhound gains Endurance as a bonus feat at 1st level. Spells, endurance, track, and combat style replaces alchemy.

Intuition

This is the same as the investigator's inspiration ability except as noted. The bloodhound has a pool of brilliant inspiration equal to 1/2 his investigator level + his Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). The bloodhound can use inspiration on any Linguistics, Sense Motive, and Survival skill checks without expending a use of inspiration, provided he's trained in the skill.

Track (Ex)

A bloodhound adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks. He suffers only half the usual penalties for tracks obscured by the passage of time or other creatures. In instances where tracking would normally be impossible, he can still follow the track with a -20 penalty on Survival checks to track. Spells, endurance, track, and combat style replaces alchemy.

Blood Scent (Ex)

At 2nd level, a bloodhound can, as a standard action, catch the blood scent one target who he is currently tracking. For the next 24 hours, he gains the scent ability towards this creature, and can track it by scent. A bloodhound can only find the blood scent of one creature each day. At 7th level, and every 4 additional levels after 7, the bloodhound can use this ability an additional time each day. This replaces poison lore.

Combat Style (Ex)

A bloodhound selects a combat style at 2nd level. This is the same as the ranger ability of the same name. Spells, endurance, track, and combat style replaces alchemy.

Swift Tracker (Ex)

The bloodhound gains the ranger's swift tracker ability at 4th level. Swift tracker replaces swift alchemy.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex)

The bloodhound gains the rogue's uncanny dodge ability at 5th level. Count bloodhound levels as rogue levels for this ability. Uncanny dodge and improved uncanny dodge replaces poison resistance.

Recall Scent (Ex)

At 8th level, the bloodhound can expend one of his daily uses of blood scent to recall the scent of any creature whose scent he has ever caught using blood scent. This works just as if he was currently tracking that creature. If he is tracking a creature who's scent he has caught in the past, he automatically recalls in which earlier situations he caught this scent.

Relentless (Ex)

At 9th level, a bloodhound is not slowed by difficult terrain. In terrain that costs 4 or more squares to enter he reduces the terrain cost by half. Areas that are enchanted or magically manipulated to impede motion affect him normally.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex)

The bloodhound gains the rogue's improved uncanny dodge ability at 13th level. Count bloodhound levels as rogue levels for this ability. Uncanny dodge and improved uncanny dodge replaces poison resistance.
