• Steel Defender Has a number of Hit Dice [d8s] equal to your artificer level and a +2 Constitution modifier and gains bonus hit points equal to your Intelligence bonus each level. It's Hit Point average is (6.5 + your Intelligence modifier) x your artificer level, rounded down, minimum 20 Hit Points. This rules is what I expect we will want to play with at higher levels, as I think the Steel Defender's HP will scale too slowly. We'll see how it works out.
