Crossbows can be made into mighty weapons. You can shoot (but not load) a crossbow with a required strength up to 8 higher than your strengths score. Anyone, even someone with a Strength under 10, can reload a standard (non-mighty) crossbow.
The following accessories make use of mighty crossbows:
Pistol Grip
Only usable with the light crossbow, the pistol grip eliminates the penalty for firing a light crossbow one-handed, but also reduces the range of the weapon to half. Cost 2 gp. Weight: -
Crow's Foot
A lever used to reload a crossbow. Using the Crow's Foot takes two free hands and one foot; this means you lose your Dexterity bonus to armor class in the round you reload and it cannot be used when you don't have your feet on the ground, such as when flying or riding. Reloading takes no extra time. A Crow's Foot increases your Strength by 4 for the purpose of reloading crossbows. Cost: 5 gp. Weight: 4 lb.
Windlass
A winch used to reload crossbows. Increases the time it takes to reload a crossbow; a light crossbow takes a full-round action to wind; a heavy crossbow takes two. Increases your Strength by 8 when reloading a crossbow. Cost 30 gp. Weight 6 lbs.
