Lone Wolf (Apath)
Unofficial rules compendium | |
|
The lone wolf is a warrior used to fighting alone against a large number of inferior warriors. Using an aggressive defense, lone wolves learn to exploit every mistake an enemy makes. Most lone wolves use two-handed slashing weapons to maximize the benefits of the style.
Lone wolves have all the class features of fighters, except as noted.
Blocking Edge (Ex)
Starting at 2nd level, the lone wolf learns to use his blade's edge as a aggressive defense. When wielding a slashing weapon and an opponent's melee attack roll misses the lone wolf with a natural die roll of 1, the lone wolf automatically deals damage to that opponent’s weapon as if he had made a successful sunder combat maneuver. If the attacker used a natural attack or an unarmed strike, or if the attacker was attempting a combat maneuver, the attacker instead takes the lone wolf's weapon damage to its own hit points. The lone wolf can use this ability even while flat-footed, provided that he is holding a slashing weapon. This replaces the bravery bonus from level 2.
Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex)
At 6th level, a lone wolf can no longer be flanked. This defense denies the ability to sneak attack the character by flanking him, unless the attacker has at least four more levels in a class that grants sneak attack than the target does in classes that give uncanny dodge or improved uncanny dodge. Note that lone wolves do not get the "regular" uncanny dodge ability. This replaces the bravery bonus from level 6.
Edge Shield (Ex)
At 10th level, the lone wolf gains a shield bonus to Armor Class equal to the enhancement bonus of any two-handed slashing weapon he wields. This replaces the bravery bonus from level 10.
Improved Blocking Edge (Ex)
At 14th level, the lone wolf can take an immediate action to trigger blocking edge against opponents that miss a melee attack or fail a combat maneuver check against him, whether they roll a natural 1 or not. This replaces the bravery bonus from level 14.
Blocking Flank (Ex)
At 18th level, the lone wolf becomes a master at blocking flanking attacks. An opponent that flanks the lone wolf who misses with a melee attack or fails a combat maneuver against the lone wolf triggers blocking edge, whether they roll a natural 1 or not. This replaces the bravery bonus from level 18.
