A mountebank is not merely a charlatan, he is a dabbler and experimenter in things arcane.
Class Abilities
A mountebank has all class abilities of the normal rogue, except as follows.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency
Montebanks are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the hand crossbow, longsword, rapier, sap, shortsword, sword cane, and whip. If eastern weapons are in use in the campaign he is also proficient with the hanbo and fighting fan. They are not proficient with armor or shields.
Mage Armor (Sp)
A mountebank with an Intelligence score of 11 or more can use mage armor as a spell-like ability once per day, with a caster level equal to his rogue level and personal range. At 4th level, and every 8 levels thereafter, the mountebank can use this ability one additional time per day. At 8th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the armor bonus provided the mountebank when he casts mage armor on himself (not on others) increases by +1.
Minor Magic (Sp)
At level 1, the mountebank gains the minor magic rogue talent. She can pick it again as a normal rogue talent, gaining it twice, combining her daily uses and level zero spells known into one pool. She gains an additional use of minor magic at 4th level and every two levels thereafter. This replaces trapfinding.
Major Magic (Sp)
At level 3, the mountebank learns the major magic rogue talent. She can pick it again as a normal rogue talent, gaining it twice, combining her daily uses and spells known of level 1 spells into one pool. She does not prepare spells beforehand, using spells as she sees fit until she runs out of daily uses. She gain an additional use of major magic at 6th level and every four levels thereafter. This replaces trap sense.
Dimension Door (Sp)
At 8th level, a mountebank with an intelligence of 14 or more can use dimension door as a spell-like ability once per day. She gains another use of this ability every 6 levels after level 8. The caster level is equal to his mountebank level. If he ends his dimension door in a location where she can use Stealth to hide, she can do so as a swift action after arriving. This replaces improved uncanny dodge.
