The monk is listed in the first class column because it has full base attack bonus with unarmed attacks, monk weapons, and and combat maneuvers - and a monk should only be doing these kinds of attacks. It also makes the table neater.

Alignment

Monks can be of any alignment, but the existing monk orders are all lawful. Most monks in the faerun are lawful, but in their native lands, monks come in all shades of alignment.

A non-lawful monk does not count his unarmed attacks as lawful-aligned at level 10. Instead a chaotic monk treat their unarmed attacks as that lawful, while neutral good and neutral evil monks treat their unarmed attacks as that alignment. True neutral monks can penetrate all damage resistance based on a material, except admantine.

Flurry of Blows

The monk can use the Flurry of Blows ability as a standard action or as part of a charge action, but when doing so they cannot make any iterative attacks, they only get two attacks.
